The facility was built in 1994 as a restaurant where friends and family could come and enjoy a sit-down meal in Southeast Raleigh - where Soul food was prepared and served at its best! Later, when it was acquired by the Murray family, the facility was converted into a private school for grades K-8th. As an independent school, fundraising events were held to defray educational expenses and keep tuition affordable for working parents.

When the school closed in 2005, the facility was used exclusively as a gathering space for community events to bring start-up entrepreneurs together and showcase local talent in the arts - including jazz jams, poetry slams, art exhibits, candidate forums, and business expos, to name a few! Word of mouth spread that Vital Link Event Space was the place to book your event, and many in the community saw it as a beacon because of its ambiance and ample parking.

In 2019, just before the global pandemic, plans were underway to repurpose and upgrade the entire facility as an event space with plenty of amenities, a commercial kitchen, and meeting rooms. Post-pandemic, those plans have been actualized - resulting in Nexus@1214 as you see it now!

The Nexus@1214 space symbolizes more than three decades of community, growth, and pride.
